GPRS support nodes

چکیده
GPRS support nodes The GPRS support nodes constitute the parts of the Ericsson cellular system core network that switch packet data. The two main nodes are the serving GPRS support node (SGSN) and the gateway GPRS support node (GGSN). Figure 1 shows an example of the architecture of Ericsson’s GPRS solution in a GSM cellular network. GSNs are also used for GPRS domains within a UMTS or TDMA system. Hardware and software redundancy have been designed into the platform, which enables operators to upgrade individual modules without disturbing traffic. Because the payload-carrying devices and control devices are kept separate in the platform, software upgrades usually have only a minimal effect on ongoing end-user payload transfer. Also, the n+1 redundancy of hardware in the platform makes it possible to upgrade most hardware devices without affecting traffic.

Authentication and Secure Communication in GSM, GPRS, and UMTS Using Asymmetric Cryptography
With its great features like providing access to users at anytime and anywhere in the world, mobile communication has been very attractive among the users as well as operators and service providers. However, despite of several advantages, mobile communication has also been facing many security problems. In 2G and 3G technologies like GSM, GPRS and UMTS, the architectures comprise of mainly thre...
متن کاملImproving packet delivery in GPRS/UMTS networks
Mobile telecommunication systems such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) provide packetswitched service for mobile terminals. 3GPP Release 4 and Release 5 further offer packet voice over a GPRS/UMTS infrastructure so that IP based communications between mobile to mobile is expected to be one of the major traffic types in the future 3G Al...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of retransmission mechanisms in GPRS networks
This paper studies the performance of the three retransmission mechanisms (i.e., RLC/MAC, LLC and TCP) in a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network accessing the Internet. This assessment is done through the end-to-end performance evaluation of Internet applications such as HTTP and FTP over GPRS. A simulation platform including client Mobile Stations, Base Station Subsystems, GPRS Support ...
متن کاملGeneral Packet Radio Service (GPRS): architecture, interfaces, and deployment
This article provides an overview of General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). GPRS reuses the existing GSM infrastructure to provide end-to-end packet-switched services. Benefits of GPRS include efficient radio usage, fast set-up/access time and high bandwidth with multiple timeslots. GPRS also provides a smooth path for GSM evolution to the third generation mobile network. Specifically, a third ge...

Nowadays there are three basic technological supports which are suffering an enormous development. First we could mention field buses applications, which are getting more and more important in domotics. The second one, Web and Internet applications, is becoming popular and accessible in the last time. Finally, the third support, based on GSM networking, make one of the most important developmen...
